FUNDING FLTAs are funded at different levels depending on the country of citizenship and the languages taught.
Fulbright Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTLs)
The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs provides Fulbright FLTAs in LCTLs with a monthly stipend to cover room and board, daily living expenses, round-trip travel, health insurance and enrichment activities. The amount of the monthly stipend varies by U.S. region. For information on the exact amount of funding your FLTA would receive, please contact the FLTA Program Office at IIE. Host institutions may elect to have IIE billed directly for the cost of room and board. If this option is selected, the FLTA will receive a smaller monthly stipend to cover daily living expenses. All other benefits remain the same. For more information on the exact amount of funding your FLTA would receive under this mechanism, please contact the FLTA Program Office at IIE. Applying to host an FLTA is competitive. Due to fiscal constraints, institutions that offer added cost-share for the more competitive languages are given extra consideration.
